Large, Dangerous Rocket Ships

Rocket Divisions

There's more than one way to build a rocket. Actually, there are more than we can count! This year, LDRS hosted four competitive divisions to give each type of rocket a chance to compete against other similar creations.

It just isn't fair to expect a Port-O-Potty with fins and a rocket fuse to compete against rockets that can travel tens of thousands of feet in a matter of seconds. Now the Port-O-Potty vs. a replica of R2-D2 — that's a different story!

Check out the competitive rocket categories to see how different these rockets really are, rules overviews, and really incredible photos from each division.

Drag Race

Up to 16 rockets take off at exactly the same moment in a brute force race to reach an altitude of 1,000 feet.
Experimental

Incredibly powerful and notoriously unpredictable rockets race to 100,000 feet — a feat that has only been achieved once before in LDRS history.

Low Altitude

This division is also affectionately known as the "Weird Rockets" category. You won't believe what these rocket enthusiasts decide to launch this year.
Race to 6,000 Feet

Check out some seriously big rockets blast off in hopes to reach an altitude of 6,000 feet faster than the rest of the pack.
