Rex Lewis Clack![]() Rex Lewis-Clack is a fifteen-year-old who possesses the incredible ability to hear any piece of music once and play it perfectly from memory on the piano, yet he is blind and severely autistic. Rex qualifies as a "prodigious savant:" his talent would be incredible even in someone with no disability at all. Rex was born blind and hyper-sensitive to sounds. Everyday noises are an assault on his senses. When he was a toddler, his mother discovered that classical music calmed him down and his father gave him a keyboard for his second birthday. Rex never stopped playing piano and has gone on to perform concerts around the world. Neurologists at the Mayo Clinic perform an MRI in an effort to see how Rex's brain functions. They discover severe damage to Rex's temporal lobe, which is responsible for auditory perception, visual and language processing and long-term memory. Rex's brain had to re-wire itself, which left him with his amazing musical gifts and daunting disabilities. More Great Minds
