Meet Mike![]() Mike "Troll" Dame was born in New Rochelle, New York, to an engineer father and homemaker mother. Mike's father's work took the family all over the world, including a brief stint living in Japan, before they settled down in Clayton, California. There, the family they became active members of the Lindsay Wildlife Museum, helping to protect and care for injured animals. With the foothills of Mount Diablo as his backyard, Mike developed a deep love for nature, and all the critters living there. While growing up, he often felt more comfortable and at home when he was out in nature than he did anywhere else. After some rough times early on, Mike's life was turned around when his wife, Lynda, brought home a tarantula. That first spider was all it took for Mike to find his true calling: arachnids. Mike's fascination with creepy-crawlies didn't stop with tarantulas, but grew to encompass all things insect and arachnid. Over the last 10 years, Mike has done extensive field work to help map the distribution of scorpion species in Central California and the Bay Area. Despite the attention and acclaim his efforts have brought to many species of scorpions, Mike's been stung more than 450 times to date. Thankfully, he's a tough character, and no scorpion has been able to bring him down...yet. When Mike met Ken McNeil 3 years ago, it was practically a marriage made in heaven. The combination of Mike's knowledge, talent, and skill, plus Ken and Georgi's business savvy, and their shared passion for critters, the "Ken the Bug Guy" business has quickly become one of the largest invertebrate and exotic insect dealers in the world. Even more importantly, a lasting friendship was born, as these three bug geeks continue to indulge their passion for hunting and caring for insects and arachnids -- side by side by side. Mike currently lives with his wife, Lynda, and youngest son, in Antioch, California. |
