Meet Georgi

Georgi McNeil from Bugging Out

Georgi blames her love of "critters" on her brothers. Her first experience with bugs was when older brother Chad used her fingers to squish ants. Due to childhood allergies, Georgi wasn't able to have "traditional" pets... but there were plenty of creepy crawlies in the house. Her earliest memories include her brother Cole draping snakes across her shoulders. Cole bought Georgi her first reptiles, a pair of green anole lizards, when she was 7 years old. A few years later, the first tarantula was introduced to the house — a gift to her little brother that captivated young Georgi, and immediately gave rise to her fascination in these amazing giants. There was no looking back once she got the "bug", and she has kept arachnids and reptiles ever since. Georgi found a kindred bug spirit in Ken McNeil, and from the beginning of their relationship, they've shared their love of the natural world. Whether they are collecting scorpions in the desert, scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, or hunting down weird pet shops in Paris, there's no one they'd rather be with than one another!

Before opening the shop with Ken, Georgi owned and operated a pottery studio specializing in functional stoneware as well as hand-made cage decorations for reptile and invertebrate enclosures. At "Ken the Bug Guy," Georgi brings her artistic eye to the bug shop, designing cages, setting up logo t-shirts and organizing booths: if it involves art, Georgi is on it. She also takes care of all the essentials: managing shop supplies, shipping, and research. She's always excited when she gets to take a break from the shop life to go hiking or bug collecting with Ken and their daughter, Korryn.

"Ken's the analytical one and I am the artistic one. Together we make an awesome, well-rounded team!"
— Georgi
