The way some people use it, you might think tourist is synonymous with words like loud, obnoxious and clueless. How did tourist become an insult? There are towns and communities that depend upon tourism as their main industry. Many tourists bring with them a sense of curiosity and a genuine desire to experience something new. But tourism can also be disruptive, particularly to people who don't make their living catering to tourists. As a result, tourists in general have a bad reputation in some places. There are ways to be a good tourist. You can be respectful of the people, culture and history of the place you travel to. You can be courteous and follow local customs.
