Gillian Deacon isn't new to the hosting duties of a weekly science show. Prior to her role on Discoveries This Week, the Toronto native co-hosted Discovery Channel Canada's @discovery.ca, the television world's first and only daily science news magazine.
Also at Discovery Channel Canada, Gillian hosted and produced Animal Tracks, an award-winning weekly series featuring wildlife biologists and researchers from around the world working to save endangered species.
Before establishing herself as one of Canada's top science TV journalists, Gillian taught elementary school children with learning disabilities, and she pioneered a new route in New Zealand where she guided student and adult bike tours.
Gillian's interests, besides science of course, include music, photography and painting. And she serves on the board of directors for the World Wildlife Fund (Canada).
The Discoveries This Week host holds a master's degree in education and a bachelor of arts degree in English. Her first book, How to Save Money and Save the Earth, a "how-to" guide to making environmentally responsible choices, will hit bookstores in 2004.
