Hi Guys,
I'm helping friends stage a music festival on their 350-acre organic farm. They have two stages built on the property made entirely from cedar trees harvested from the property. They also built their house out of recycled building materials from the family's childhood home. We are trying to make this annual music festival a green festival. There have been diesel to bio-diesel demonstrations and many other green workshops on the property in the past years, but this year we want to power the sound equipment entirely with solar power!
We are open to suggestions and wanted to know if you have any ideas for making this festival the greenest festival of the year. We expect 5,000 - 6,000 people, and the festival supports local organic farmers and other Kentucky-based businesses. Terrapin Hill Farm is a member of the Community Farm Alliance, a grassroots group here in Kentucky. We have hosted many national music acts in the past and are expecting some big names this year. One festival will be July 4th or 5th and the fall festival will be the third weekend of September (though those dates are flexible). You guys would have a blast at this family-friendly party! Please consider helping us make this a green event. Check out www.terrapinhillfarm.com/festival for more information. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Keep it green,
John
John,
It looks like a great festival. Keep us posted when you plan your next event. Some things we thought would be fun (and we've seen some folks do) would be to make the sound system off-the-grid, and solar powered. Maybe you could get a sponsor. Diesel generators can run on fry oil with a little conversion, too. There's a festival around here called Blue Skies and I like how they've made all the functions of the festival volunteer, keeping it grassroots and human-scaled, from the community kitchen that has coffee and granola ready when you wake up groggy to workshops for kids to make a noise parade, waking the parents. You sign up on a bulletin board in the middle of the grounds and everyone pitching in keeps the party everybody's party. If you had enough sunny days it could be fun for a crowd to do some solar supping. Folk musicians from all over the world seem to relate to what green means. Great to see you guys are doing it and having a good time. Good luck growing your festival.
Best,
Micah
Dear John,
These events look awesome. Anything outdoors, local farm awareness and solar-powered music? Perfect. It has been a dream of mine to set up a small, off-the-grid jam room up north. Keep up the good work. If I am down in Kentucky, I'll drop by Terrapin Hill Farm.
Thanks,
Christopher
