Batteries: Nine 12-volt, 115-amp deep-cycle lead-acid batteries

Background: Built in one school year in the wood shop at Manitou Springs High School. Designed as a commuter car, this vehicle seats four. It is used in the school's driver's education program every summer. Manitou Springs is the only high school in the U.S. to use an electric car in its driver's ed program. The VW is driven daily by woodshop instructor Dennis Korth.
