USA Science & Engineering Festival

Be the Future

NEW! The festival was a great success. MythBuster and Head Rush Host Kari Byron met with aspiring scientists and did some cool experiments. Check out the slideshow on DiscoveryChannel.com.

The first USA Science & Engineering Festival was held October 10-24, 2010 throughout the Washington, DC metro area. More than 500 science and engineering companies, professional associations, colleges and universities, K-12 schools and other organizations participated in two weeks of events including brown bag lunches for students with Nobel Laureates, more than 50 scientists visiting area schools and science open houses for the general public. More than a hundred DC-area trade associations were involved as partners.

The grand finale was a two-day Expo on the National Mall, October 23-24, 2010. Some highlights included:

  • More than 1,500 interactive exhibits explaining the science of superheroes, baseball, Thanksgiving dinner and much more.
  • Biggest Loser winners will talk about the science of nutrition for the National Institutes of Health and mobile labs will give participants insight into how their bodies work.
  • Fifty stage shows will feature science rappers, musicians, comedians — even the Redskins cheerleaders are creating a support for science cheer.
  • More than 25 satellite events will be held across the nation so everyone can join in.
  • It's all free.
