Kent Weeks Discovers Hidden KV 5 Halls (1995)

In 1995, flood debris was being cleared from what seemed like a minor tomb, known as KV 5. For thousands of years, KV 5 was thought to have only four chambers. But when a doorway was unblocked, an amazing discovery was made. Behind lay a corridor with dozens of chambers leading off from it. KV 5 turned out not only to be the largest tomb in the valley, but the largest ever found in Egypt. The discovery was made by American Egyptologist Kent Weeks.  For more information about this amazing find, go to Kent Weeks' project Web site: The Theban Mapping Project.
