Valley of the Kings Timeline

Death of Seti I (1290 B.C.)

Seti I was the son of Ramses I by his wife Sitre and ruled Egypt for 14 years. Seti devoted substantial energy and wealth to the restoration of temples, and pursued an expansionist foreign policy — fighting several campaigns against the Hittites in the Near East (Syria). Seti's tomb in the Valley of the Kings (KV 17) was the longest, deepest and most completely decorated of all the tombs in the Valley of the Kings. It was the first tomb to be decorated with a "complete program" of religious texts and to include a vaulted burial chamber. KV 17 was rediscovered and explored by Giovanni Battista Belzoni in October 1817.
