SURVIVORMAN: ARCTIC
The Location: Pond Inlet, Baffin Island, Alaska
The Ecosystem: Arctic
The Challenge: Find a way back to civilization within seven days after snowmobiling onto the pack ice.
The Supplies: A broken-down snowmobile, a hunk of uncooked seal liver, oil-rich blubber for heat, a seal hook, three matches, a knife, a multi-tool, a rifle, 50 pounds of camera equipment and a harmonica.
Pond Inlet, on the northern reaches of Baffin Island, is one of the most challenging landscapes on the planet. More than 400 miles north of the Arctic Circle, it's surrounded by grinding, ever-shifting flows of sea ice where polar bears roam in search of meat. It's mid-May and the polar bear threat is extreme, so Les is forbidden from venturing out onto the ice without a rifle for protection.
Armed and smelling dangerously of seal meat, our real-life survivor heads out over the pack ice into the heart of an inhospitable wilderness. Because of the particularly harsh nature of this challenge, Les is allowed to cannibalize his snowmobile for anything of value. Under a midnight sun, Les stalks seagulls and spends hours crouched over a hole in the ice waiting for a seal to surface. By day five, he has exhausted his supply of seal meat and is chewing on the blubber.
Can Les find his way back to civilization? Or will the crew need to rescue him? Find out in Survivorman: Arctic.
