Jupiter Flyby and Gravity Assist: Dec. 30, 2000
Cassini-Huygens flies by Jupiter, taking photos and getting a final boost. Galileo has been orbiting the gas giant since December 1995, so the two spacecraft simultaneously observe Jupiter's huge magnetic environment, atmosphere, rings and moons.
Besides beaming back exciting new photos, Cassini records waves in low radio frequencies emitted from a thin gas composed of charged particles filling the space between the sun and its planets.
