Whirlpool Galaxy
This new image of the Whirlpool Galaxy showcases the spiral galaxy's curving arms and yellowish central core. A companion galaxy located at the end of one of the spiral arms is of great interest to scientists.

The image was released on Feb. 25, 2005 to celebrate the Hubble Space Telesope's 15th anniversary. Made with Hubble's newest camera, the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS), the image is among the largest and sharpest Hubble has ever taken.
